As I walk around I hear the sniffles sneezes and peoples moans talking about how bad their allergies are right now. So not being the only one out there I want to share with you my food regime that helps combat spring allergies!
Stinging Nettles: Dry them when they are plentiful and save them through the tough season. Make a soups, stir fry, or teas with them. They have a robust nutty spinach flavor to them and you either love them or you get use to them. They are anti inflammatory and contain histamine, a chemical that you produce when you are having an allergic reaction, which when taken in small doses helps build a tolerance.
Brasicas: A very broad but powerful family that include kales, broccoli collards, mustards, bok-choy, and daikon to name a few. Eat them up they are packed with allergy relieving vitamin C and are known to clear blocked sinuses and when taken daily help prevent allergies. Also a fun fact that most all brasicas nutrients can be absorbed with the benefit of a little fat. So grab the butter or olive oil with a smile, it is healthy.
Onions, Garlic and Parsley: All help act as an antihistamine which will help you out when you are already started an allergy attack. So grab some parsley to munch on or go make your self a brasica saute loaded with parsley, onions , and garlic next time that your allergies hit.
If you have a good health food store, or have the know how to make tinctures I have been using Ambrosia – Ragweed tincture for my acute allergic episodes. My good friend made me some for me after he witnessed the grasses on I-5 get the best of me.
As always stay healthy out there, take care of yourself and the ones around you. I hope that this helps you, or someone that you know to make it though the allergy season a little easier.
